What Is a Dependant?
A dependant is someone who relies on you and may be eligible to be included in certain employee benefits.
Dependants are typically family members and may be covered by benefits such as:
- Healthcare
- Insurance
- Family-related benefits
Eligibility will depend on your employer's benefit rules.
Important: Adding a dependant to your account does not automatically add them to a benefit. If a benefit allows dependant cover, you'll be prompted to add or select your dependant as part of the benefit selection process. You can add new dependants at that point if required, so there's no need to add them separately in advance unless you wish to manage your family details before making your benefit selections.
How Do I View My Dependants?
You can view your dependants by:
- Selecting the arrow in the top-right corner of the portal and choosing My Family, or
- Selecting Update Family Details from the homepage (if available).
The My Family page shows any dependants currently linked to your account.
How Do I Add a Dependant?
To add a new dependant:
- Select Add a Family Member.
- Complete the required information, which may include:
- Forename
- Surname
- Relationship
- Legal Gender
- Date of Birth
- Full-Time Education Status (if applicable)
- Disability Status (if applicable)
- Select Save.
The dependant will then be added to your account.
How Do I Update a Dependant's Details?
To update an existing dependant:
- Locate the dependant on the My Family page
- Select Update Details
- Edit the available information
- Select Save Changes
How Do I Remove a Dependant?
To remove a dependant:
- Select Remove next to their name
- Confirm your choice
Why Can't I Remove a Dependant?
A dependant cannot be removed if they are linked to a current or future benefit.
If a dependant is assigned to a benefit:
- The Remove option will not be available
- You'll see a message explaining that the dependant is linked to a benefit
- You may need to remove the dependant from the benefit before they can be deleted from your account
In some cases, you may need to contact your HR or support team for assistance.
What If I Can't Edit My Dependants?
Some organisations do not enable dependant self-service.
If dependant management is not available, you'll still be able to view your dependant information, but you won't be able to add, update, or remove dependants yourself.
