What is a Flex Allowance?
A Flex Allowance is an amount provided by your employer that can be used to pay for eligible benefits.
Instead of paying for these benefits from your salary, the cost is deducted from your available allowance.
Note: Flex Allowance is only available if your employer offers it as part of your benefits package.
How do I know if I have a Flex Allowance?
If you're eligible for a Flex Allowance, your available balance will be displayed in the employee portal.
You may also see information explaining what happens to any unused allowance at the end of the benefit period.
Where can I view my Flex Allowance balance?
- Scheduled window
Your starting balance is shown based on the window’s effective date. - Lifestyle or anytime windows
Your starting balance is shown based on today’s date. - More than one window open
Your starting balance won’t appear on the homepage.
You can view it by going to My Benefits and selecting a window.
When choosing benefits, you’ll always see your actual remaining allowance, updated in real time as you make selections.
How do I know which benefits can use my Flex Allowance?
Benefits that can be paid for using your allowance will display a Money Bag/Flex Allowance icon on the benefit tile.
What information is shown when I select a benefit?
For benefits that use Flex Allowance, you'll see information showing:
- That the benefit can be paid for using your allowance
- Your available allowance before making a selection
- Your remaining allowance after making a selection
This allows you to understand the impact of your choice before submitting it.
Does my allowance update automatically?
Yes.
As you add, amend, or remove benefits, your available allowance is updated in real time based on your current selections.
The Benefit Cost Summary will also display:
- Your total allowance
- How much allowance has been used
- Your remaining balance
Can I spend more than my available allowance?
This depends on the rules configured by your employer and the benefit selected.
If additional employee contributions are allowed, any costs above your available allowance may be taken from your salary.
Where a benefit must be fully funded by Flex Allowance, you won't be able to select an option that exceeds your available balance.
Where else can I view my Flex Allowance?
Your Total Reward Statement also show:
- Your total Benefit Allowance
- How much has been used on benefits
- Any remaining balance
This provides an overall view of the value of your benefits package and how your allowance has been used.
